Everyday essential

My mare is an easy keeper so slow feed hay bags are a must to give her 24/7 access to hay. I use Kensington two flake slow feed hay bags everyday. I have 6 in total and I fill them every couple of days so that the barn owner only needs to hang them in her stall. I love that they are extremely durable. I had to add locking carabiners since my mare cleverly got them off the wall and tossed them around her stall with regular clips. They survived without any damage but did need a good cleaning (I soak them in a clean muck bucket with mild dish soap then rinse well and hang dry). The hay bag with rim is definitely easier to fill and I like that it is a little shorter than the other 2 flake model. I also like that it comes in 2 options in terms of the size of the holes. The larger holes are great for denser hays like alfalfa.

Great bag but could be better

This bag definitely holds up well and has the same great durability as other Kensington products. I’ve had it for a little over a month and it still looks new. The holes are small enough to slow down my gelding, but the top of the bag doesn’t close all the way. It has one strap to attach it to a fence/trailer, and only one strap to close it off, leaving both sides open. Customer service informed me that the bag is designed to hung at the head height so they can’t reach the top of the bag. I used bucket straps to rig it so that my horse wasn’t able to eat through the top of the bag, yet could still be used in a more natural grazing position. I wish they could’ve added just a few more straps on the top to close it off, but other than that, it’s a great bag.
