I would like to start by introducing myself I am Alan J. Gatto and I started with Custom Made Saddlery back in September of 1968. In January 1988, I purchased the company and it became Custom Made Saddlery, Inc. At that time I began to work with a PVC material known as Textilene. This material was originally designed for the Patio Furniture Industry. I had no idea this would be the building block that created Kensington. I realized at that time that there was nothing on the market that could hold up outdoors for more than one season, but patio furniture, I thought, sits outside for several years enduring all of the weather elements. Also, besides looking for something that would last, I felt UV protection could become an important element in a flysheet. The only fabric I found to offer all of these qualities and more, was from a US company named, Twitchell, and their brand of Textilene, that soon became the cornerstone of our company. By the end of the decade, Custom Made Saddlery, Inc. was on its way to becoming the standard for fly control products, offering maximum UV protection to the Equine Industry and having the longest lasting products available. Not only were we making flysheets, but we also created the first fly boot for a local Southern California feed store.

In 2001, we published our first patent for our Kensington 2002 flysheet. This is also when the name was changed from a flysheet to a protective sheet. The patent was for a PVC mesh material to be used as an outer cover to prevent wear and tear to blankets and sheets. This was our driving idea behind our 4 All Seasons Blanket Layering System.

In January 2007, we applied for another patent for our latest innovation, which will be known worldwide as the “Kensington Bug Eye Fly Mask”. This fly mask offers a molded eye area that prevents the mask from touching the upper eyebrow, lashes and tactile hairs as well as providing maximum eye area protection. Eliminating all of the darts and pressure around the eye prevents irritation and keeps the horse from trying to tear the mask off. Once again the US Textilene Mesh is behind an innovative Kensington product that will help millions of horses worldwide.

In 2010, we are introducing the next generation in equine fly protection. The new Kensington Natural Look CatchMask combines the proven protection and durability of Kensington’s TextileneR mesh fly masks with natural horse colors and the convenience of a built-in catch halter to create a revolutionary new product.

From the beginning I have always believed in quality craftsmanship. Before coming to the market our fabrics go through a rigorous quality inspection here at our Southern California headquarters. From tear tests, to exposure to heat, we examine all degrees of durability in order to ensure a quality product. It is in this idea that our Kensington Lifetime Customer Satisfaction Program exists. Quality is the reason we stand behind our products for the lifetime that you own them and if I did not believe in the quality and durability of our products, they would never carry the Kensington name. Looking forward into the future of our company, you can be sure that Kensington Protective Products, Inc.’s mission will be to prevent injury and to protect the 4-legged animals that we love so dearly.

Since 1954 Kensington Protective Products has been on the forefront of innovative blanketing designs, and the Ultra breathable Heavy Weight SuperMesh Turnout is no exception. This four piece sewn together patented blanket comes in Kensington’s Traditional and European cut and utilizes the 53 years of experience in blanket manufacturing to offer the highest quality protection, durability, breathability, fit, and it’s the first blanket built to withstand our changing weather patterns.

This is the only blanket that utilizes Kensington’s Exclusive 1000×2000 Denier Textilene SuperMesh® as an outer shell. The Textilene SuperMesh® outer shell not only offers protection from the elements, but also creates a unique layer that retains warmth when in freezing weather and increases the life of the lower layers. The second layer of protection is a 300 Denier Ripstop waterproof and breathable fabric sewn under the Textilene SuperMesh®. For warmth this blanket has 240g hollow fiberfill and a Coolwick® super absorbent liner that wicks moisture away from your horse’s coat and passes it through to the outer shell, this allows any excessive moisture to be released through the blanket.

The Ultra Breathable Heavy Weight SuperMesh® Turnout is 100% waterproof and extremely breathable, this blanket keeps your horse comfortable and warm from -10°F through 60°F. Perfect for the added wind chill and changing temperatures while trailering.

To ensure optimum fit please follow these instructions when measuring your horse for a Kensington blanket or sheet. Using a flexible measuring tape, measure from the center of the horse’s chest, around the widest part of the shoulder, along the barrel, and around the widest part of the hind-quarter to the center of the rear. The measurement in inches is the size of the blanket. If your horse measures an odd number please add one inch to the measurement, this will produce the most accu¬rate number for the size of your horse. If you plan to purchase a European cut blanket please reduce your measurement by two inches for proper size.
